According to domestic media reports, China’s 110 megawatt heavy-duty gas turbine “Taihang 110” passed the complete machine verification on June 4th, marking another important breakthrough in Chinese technology.

After reading the news report from CCTV, I mainly introduced its energy-saving, emission reduction, high-power, and other aspects. For example, compared to thermal power of the same power, it can reduce carbon emissions by 1 million tons per year, generate electricity for one hour, and enable 15000 households to use it for one day.
In addition to these, the author also sees another point. If it is combined with our all electric propulsion, does it mean that Chinese warships are more capable?
According to online data, the propulsion power of the British aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth is 80 megawatts, while the propulsion power of the US aircraft carrier Ford is 104 megawatts. Our 003 aircraft carrier’s power demand should not be higher than theirs. In theory, having one “Taihang 110” would be enough, but considering electromagnetic ejection and other power requirements, installing four “Taihang 110” should be completely sufficient.
With such a large power, combined with our fully electric propulsion, it would be quite handsome. At that time, not only aircraft carriers, but also other warships such as 055, 052D, 075, 076, and carrier nannies. If they were all equipped with the “Taihang 110+all electric propulsion”, it would be very good.
However, although “Taihang 110” is already very powerful, it seems that it is not yet the strongest. The author checked past news and found that on October 15, 2022, China Eastern Steam Turbine mastered the world’s most advanced H/J class gas turbine manufacturing technology, producing the first M701J gas turbine in China. The turbine inlet temperature exceeded 1600 ?, the combined cycle efficiency exceeded 64%, and the combined cycle power was 650MW, becoming the world’s leading gas turbine product in terms of performance.
Compared to the pure domestic production of the “Taihang 110”, the localization rate of the M701J is only 65%, which means that some of it uses foreign technology and components. But that’s okay, like the C919, it doesn’t have national production either. If we first develop it and then gradually replace it with domestic products, that’s all.
If we make good use of these guys such as the “Taihang 110” and M701J, our warships, electromagnetic catapults, electromagnetic guns, and laser weapons will probably be more proficient in the future.
