Story 1: empty cup mentality

A scholar asked a respected old Zen master about Zen, but he kept on talking about his views.

The old Zen master was silent and treated each other with tea. Seeing that the tea was almost full, the old Zen master did not stop.

The scholar said anxiously: “ Don’t pour any more, it will overflow soon& rdquo;

The old Zen master said calmly: “ You are like a cup full of water, full of your own prejudices and opinions. How can I say Zen to you& rdquo;

In life, we need the mind of accepting all rivers and the spirit of seeking new knowledge.

In the face of all the unknown, there will always be good tea and surprises waiting for you.

Story 2: Zhuangzi’s empty boat

Chuang Tzu · Shanmu tells a short story:

When a man crossed the river by boat, he saw that a boat opposite him was about to hit him.

The man shouted several times, but there was no response, so he began to scold the sailor for not having eyes.

But when he found that it was an empty ship, his anger immediately disappeared.

Many times, anger is not because it hurts you, but because it is a psychological problem.

If you don’t take yourself as the center, don’t complain, and live in the world with an open mind, how can you be angry?

Story 3: draw water with an empty basket

There was a couple of grandsons who got up early every morning to study.

One day, Sun Tzu asked: “ Grandpa, I read like you every day, but I don’t understand it, and I forget it all when I close the book. Is it useful to read like this& rdquo;

Grandpa didn’t say anything. He turned around and handed a bamboo basket containing coal to his grandson: “ Go and fetch me a basket of water& rdquo;

The boy tried many times, but every time before he ran home, the water would leak out.

Looking at his grandson’s exhausted appearance, Grandpa smiled and pointed to the bamboo basket. Grandson realized that the bamboo basket was different from before. It was clean from the inside to the outside.

Reading more, even if you don’t understand or remember, will imperceptibly change you, both externally and internally.

As the saying goes, there is no idle work in the world, nor is it empty to draw water with a bamboo basket.

Story 4: empty bowl story

The little disciple asked the old Zen master: “ Master, I am so tired. I am busy from morning till night. Why is there no achievement& ldquo;

The old Zen master pondered for a moment and asked the little disciple to bring an empty bowl.

The old Zen master put a dozen walnuts into a bowl and asked: “ Can you put more walnuts in the bowl& rdquo;

Little disciple: “ It’s full. I can’t put it down& rdquo;

The old Zen master poured a lot of rice into the cracks of walnuts and filled the whole bowl. The little disciple seemed to understand.

The old Zen master smiled and poured a ladle of water into the bowl. It seemed that all the gaps in the bowl were filled.

The old Zen master asked the little disciple: “ Is it full this time& rdquo; The little disciple dared not answer.

Unexpectedly, the old Zen master put a handful of salt in the water, and the water didn’t overflow at all.

A man’s life is an empty bowl. If you are filled with many small things first, you will have no time to take care of big things.

What should be put into the bowl first? What is the walnut of your life?

Story 5: empty bottle opening

The fox and the monkey did not eat for several days, so they went to ask the Buddha to give them food.

Buddha said: “ Here are two bottles. One is full of food and the other is empty. Choose one& rdquo;

The fox thought for a while and said: “ I think these two bottles are empty& rdquo;

A bottle opens: “ I’m not empty& rdquo;

As soon as the fox heard this, he immediately took away another bottle, which was really full of delicious food.

Looking at the puzzled look of the monkey, the fox smiled and said: “ If you have an empty bottle, you will be afraid of being called an empty bottle& rdquo;

People with empty stomachs are afraid of being told that they don’t understand anything.

And the man with goods in his belly doesn’t care what you say about him.
