It has been one and a half years since Biden administration took office on January 20, 2021.
Biden’s personal governance performance is not good, and his support rate is even lower than trump in the same period.
The serious “party strife” in the United States, social polarization, economic hollowing out, and the decline of hegemony have made Biden unable to return to heaven.
Biden is personally old and out of physical strength and energy. The ruling team has its own way. The lack of unity of the Democratic Party group in Congress makes Biden’s governance not smooth.
In my impression, Biden is one of the worst presidents in the United States in decades.
It is highly probable that the Democratic Party will be “hard hit” in the mid-term congressional elections on November 8, 2022.
In 2024, if Biden and trump “fight again”, Biden, who has no “new aura” and another feather in his ruling performance, will lose 100%.
In terms of China US relations, Biden has actually continued the trump era’s strategic positioning towards China.
Since 2016, the United States has clearly defined China as the number one strategic competitor and even potential enemy of the United States. The U.S. policy towards China has changed from focusing on contact and cooperation in previous decades to focusing on competition, confrontation and containment.
Trump is a “political plain person”. He is extremely arrogant and likes to act recklessly. Trump’s China policy, using the concept in Jin Yong’s martial arts novels, likes to fight “seven injuries”.
As we all know, the power of “seven injury fist” is amazing, but with each punch, you will also suffer heavy internal injuries.
The China policy of the trump period is probably like this. It looks very arrogant and domineering, but while it has an impact on China, it has also brought serious consequences for the United States itself, such as internal division and gradual estrangement between its allies and the United States.
Biden has been living in Washington for decades. He is a standard American veteran politician. His China policy, borrowing the concept in Jin Yong’s martial arts novels, likes to fight “hypocrite boxing”.
This “hypocrite” characteristic of Biden’s China policy is vividly reflected in three aspects:
First, politically, the Biden administration fabricated the so-called “freedom, democracy” and “autocracy” struggle between the United States and China in order to safeguard its hegemony, and even described it as “a contest between light and darkness” in Christian religious language;
Second, economically, the Biden administration put on the cloak of so-called “national security” and even “human rights” that the United States suppressed China’s advantageous industries in a way that seriously violated the principles of market economy in order to maintain its industrial competitiveness;
Third, diplomatically, the Biden administration has repeatedly promised not to fight the new cold war and not to seek to contain China, while constantly patching up political and military alliances around China to deliberately slander and contain China; On the one hand, the Biden administration kept saying that it would “fence” Sino US relations and seek higher-level communication with China. On the other hand, it continued to interfere in China’s internal affairs on issues such as Taiwan, Xinjiang and Hong Kong, pushing Sino US relations towards confrontation.
Biden’s government exerts “hypocritical fist” in Sino US relations, which is determined by Biden’s personal political character. He has been immersed in the “big sauce jar” in Washington for decades. It is really common for him to stand repeatedly and do one thing after another.
Of course, we will not directly accuse Biden publicly, mainly saying that the people of Biden’s ruling team did not implement Biden’s commitments. This can reveal the true nature of the Biden administration’s “hypocritical fist” in Sino US relations, and also let the international community see the fact that the United States is responsible for the deterioration of Sino US relations.
The Biden administration’s “hypocritical fist” against China is also determined by the characteristics of the American ruling group. In 246 years since the founding of the United States, especially after the United States gradually moved towards the peak of hegemony at the end of the 19th century, its foreign policy has always pursued the principle of “American priority”. For the United States, any international norms have never been a rigid norm to restrict American behavior, but a cover and stick used by the United States to attack others.
As for Biden’s “hypocrite fist”, it should be said that most people in China now see it clearly.
If we say that four or five years ago, when trump “blackmailed” China, there were still some “reflection monsters” in China who kept cutting inward and self disparaging, after the education of Huawei, Hong Kong, trade war and a series of events, the domestic people saw very clearly that the United States is to contain China, and the only reason for the United States to contain China is that China should not develop, let alone surpass the United States.
From the initial shock and incomprehension of the robber thinking of the United States, the Chinese people are basically all kinds of cynicism now.
Internationally, how effective is Biden’s “hypocrite fist”?
Over the past period of time, the Biden administration has made various small moves against China. There are many new terms, from aukus to Quad, to the “Indo Pacific Economic Cooperation Framework” (IPEF), “global infrastructure and investment partnership”, and so on, which are dazzling.
In terms of slandering China, the United States has created various “discourse traps”, accusing China of being a “totalitarian state” and fabricating naked lies such as “forced labor and genocide in Xinjiang”.
Since the United States still controls the major Western media through direct and indirect means, it seems that “the situation seems to be unfavorable to China”.
Some people even lament why the United States can spread such absurd lies as “genocide” all over the world?
I may have some different views on the effect of Biden’s “hypocrite fist” in China.
First, we should have reasonable expectations for Western media’s reports on China. Media such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and the financial times are not how ignorant their reporters and editors are, nor how ignorant they are about China. On the contrary, they know China very well, and they slander, attack and smear China wantonly in their reports on China, It is completely a conscious initiative, which is determined by the capital attribute, class attribute and national interest attribute of these media.
I’ve been thinking recently that China needs to maintain basic communication with these western media and journalists, but don’t imagine that they will change their views and reports on China. In the words of Chinese netizens, you will never wake up a person who pretends to sleep. China should find ways to directly do the work of ordinary Americans.
Second, the United States seems to have a great momentum to contain China, but in fact, no matter how the United States plays the word game, it turns over and over, and it is the thirty or forty countries that really support the United States, basically the “five eye alliance”, the European Union, NATO, Japan and South Korea and other countries. Although these countries have a relatively large economic aggregate and have a relatively large voice and influence in the international community, they are not qualified to represent the international community in terms of total population, number of countries and development potential.
You can have a look. Every time the United States engages in tricks, tricks and conspiracies against China, it will always be those countries and a small group of people who really praise the United States for its “smelly feet”. Among these countries, the military and intelligence departments are the most heavily infiltrated and controlled by the United States, so they are particularly active in Anti China.
Third, Biden’s “hypocrite fist” actually has no market in most countries and regions in the world. On the contrary, American hegemony is like a room with air leakage on all sides, full of flaws and cracks. The United States has recently made efforts in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Antony Blinken attended the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting and praised the host Indonesia in every way. However, Southeast Asian countries are not fools. Whether Indonesia or Vietnam, China is their largest trading partner, and it is their neighbor that they cannot move away. More importantly, China is really willing to share development opportunities with Southeast Asian countries through the China ASEAN Free Trade Area and RCEP. In contrast, the United States, in addition to repeated hype on security and political issues, has no “real money” in market opening, investment, assistance and other aspects urgently needed by Southeast Asian countries.
In the Middle East, the United States also faces the risk of hegemony decline. Biden himself, under the pressure of domestic public opinion, criticized Saudi Arabia. At the same time, he fantasized that Saudi Arabia would increase oil production, help alleviate the inflationary pressure of the United States, and even fantasized that Saudi Arabia would support Israel and jointly deal with Iran. On the surface, the Saudis cooperated, but deep inside, 10000 “grass mud horses” flew by. More importantly, Saudi Arabia today is fully confident to deal with the United States.
For countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, the United States provokes the great power competition between China and the United States in order to maintain its own hegemony. It is very clear that Biden’s “hypocrite fist” can’t confuse people at all.
More importantly, through the collapse of Kabul and the crisis in Ukraine, more and more countries have seen clearly that when the United States plays chess and supplies, the end will be very miserable.
Even Vietnam, which has a certain rift with China on sovereignty and historical issues, is unwilling to act as a pawn against China by the United States.
Fundamentally speaking, the United States, as an ally, has actually gone bankrupt morally and reputably.
After the Ukrainian crisis, the tragedy of the EU will make non western countries think deeply. In addition to being put on a high hat of “defending freedom, democracy and human rights”, people who follow the United States will not get any practical benefits. Instead, they should be wary of the United States “abandoning everything at any time”.
I once said that it is dangerous to be an enemy of the United States, but it is more dangerous to be an ally of the United States.
The international geopolitical reality of the past few years has fully explained this problem.
For Biden’s “hypocrite fist”, especially for the Biden government’s repeated talk of communicating with China, the Chinese people can maintain a sense of normalcy.
“If you want to talk, I’m welcome. I’m not afraid of what moths you want to toss.”
For China US relations, we can basically go back to the 16 word summary I put forward before: “lose your illusions, dare to fight, hold the bottom line, and wait for changes.”
For the United States, the mid-term congressional election in 2022 and the presidential election in 2024 will bring great changes to the political situation of the United States.
After more than a decade of “magic”, the Federal Reserve is now facing a situation of high inflation, and has to radically raise interest rates and shrink its table. The risk of the U.S. economy falling into recession is greatly increased.
Biden is guarding such a mess, and it is very difficult to make a difference.
For the United States, we have no illusions, are not afraid of it, but we do not despise it.
It is human nature and the nature of the country that the United States tosses China.
However, through the struggle of the past four to five years, China has gained a firm foothold, and China has a clearer understanding of the strength of the United States and China from top to bottom.
We have no illusions that the struggle between China and the United States will suddenly disappear, and we are not afraid of the struggle. Moreover, we are full of confidence in the outcome of the struggle between China and the United States.
No matter Trump’s “seven injuries fist” or Biden’s “hypocrite fist”, in the end, it is futile for anyone to fantasize about preventing more than 1.4 billion Chinese people from pursuing a better life.
