Today is July 1. At 8 a.m., the flag raising ceremony to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland was held at the Golden Bauhinia Square outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.
Accompanied by the Hong Kong Police Silver Band, the flag guard team entered the arena with Chinese style foot exercises.
Moreover, from today on, English passwords such as “yes sir” of the Hong Kong Police Force have also been written in Chinese, “yes, sir!” replace.
1. National unity is not only the unity of territory, but also the unity of system, culture and customs. The sense of belonging comes from the subtle influence of daily life.
2. On Chinese land, Chinese police and Chinese law enforcement agencies should not have used the steps and rituals of the British colonial period.
3. From the aesthetic point of view, the PLA queue is the most handsome and heroic queue in the world. It is not comparable to the loose footwork of Britain. The Chinese queue can resonate with ordinary people.
The major events of the country are only worship and war. The country must have a unified sense of ceremony, and only then can it have unified national feelings and common memory.
There is an old Hong Kong film called Zhongnanhai bodyguard.
Among them, there is a comparison between the mainland police and the Hong Kong police. Our police is called the people’s public security, and the Hong Kong police is called the “Royal British police”… This difference is big. The film uses the words of the Hong Kong Police “Feibo” to say, “people serve the great Chinese people; we serve the citizens of British territory, and we also need to add parentheses (Overseas)”.
At that time, although Hong Kong films still had a stereotype of the mainland, on the whole, most of them were nationalistic. Hong Kong directors and screenwriters still had a deep hatred for colonialism, imperialism and comprador… At that time, anti imperialist sentiment was still very strong in the film and television industry, so Hong Kong people were able to make “Huang Feihong”, “Huo Yuanjia” series, and write “the Great Wall will never fall” A song like “a man should be self-improvement”.
To put it bluntly, in the 1980s and 1990s, when people were dying everywhere, Hong Kong’s patriotic enthusiasm was actually higher than ours. For example, martial arts novelist Liang Yusheng was also an open leftist. His works contained a large number of passages eulogizing national heroes and the peasant uprising army. His novels “wind and thunder shook Kyushu” and “Ming dy wind and cloud record”… In fact, the names came from teachers’ poems.
However, under the long-term colonial rule, Hong Kong’s culture and ideology are very chaotic, including the free ideological trend of capitalism, the left-wing anarchism, the feudal remnants of local markets, the loyalty and integrity of traditional China, the Jianghu habits of gangs and underworld… So you can see that Hong Kong is very magical, including the Jiulong walled city where the bottom people live in ants, and the private garden of the Banshan villa of the top rich, There are passionate nationalism, and there are exquisite egoism who yearn to get rid of their origins abroad; There are Jianghu gangs that reject “white ghosts” like the “boxers”, and there are also the bad habits of fawning on foreigners wearing wigs in the legal profession.
When the mainland was liberated in 1949, people of insight and patriots in Hong Kong were also elated. They even marched on the streets and hung five-star red flags… During the war to resist US aggression and aid Korea, Hong Kong’s national entrepreneurs also risked many risks to transport materials for the volunteer army. In the decades of the cold war between the East and the west, Hong Kong is our only window to the West and plays a very important role.
The mentality of the people of Hong Kong is also very complex. For a long time, the economic level and living standard of Hong Kong have far exceeded those of mainland compatriots, so that although some people are patriotic and nationalistic, they do have a mentality of being high above others and giving away their poor relatives. “Patriotism is still a special concept in Hong Kong. Hong Kong people are indeed patriotic, but many people say that the ‘country’ they love is the rivers and mountains of the motherland, history and culture, etc., not necessarily a political entity.” Many people have been brainwashed by western capitalism for a long time and remain hostile and biased towards socialism.
After 2010, especially after the economic take-off and the great development of productivity in the mainland, the mentality of some people in Hong Kong has changed… Hatred of the mainland people has occurred from time to time, which has been used by British and American imperialists and separatists.
However, what really affected the young people in Hong Kong and caused the chaos in Hong Kong in 2019 was the long-standing “colonial rule” in Hong Kong’s educational and judicial circles. They changed a generation of young people through toxic teaching materials, toxic media, the dissemination of historical nihilism, and the judicial protection of separatist and subversive elements… This is a real lesson from the past.
In fact, to truly achieve national unity and liberation, we must achieve unity and liberation in education and culture. Changing customs means “transforming the world”.
In 1997, Hong Kong returned to the embrace of the motherland, and the police force changed its hat badge, arm and logo, but the classification has not changed. In 2020, with the formal implementation of the national security law of Hong Kong, Chinese foot exercises began to gradually replace British foot exercises. Since 2021, the PLA Hong Kong Garrison has been invited to organize nearly 1000 people’s Liberation Army queue training for the Hong Kong disciplinary forces. On April 15, 2021, on the first national security education day for all since the implementation of the national security law in Hong Kong, Chinese walking exercises were also added to the opening activities of the major disciplined forces. In early 2022, the Hong Kong Immigration Department, the customs and Excise Department, the Fire Services Department and the Correctional Services Department reprinted the PLA queue. On July 1, 2022, the Hong Kong Police Force was also fully transferred to the PLA queue. This step represents the severance of Hong Kong from the past colonial rule and its integration with the country.
Symbols and rituals are very important for a country.
Sometimes the truth is very complex and abstract, which is not clear in oneortwo sentences. Patriotism is a kind of simple emotion, which comes naturally from the heart. It only needs simple triggering and resonance.
Just like Long Yingtai asked at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, “what is the song in your memory?”? All the teachers and students sang “my motherland” to her.
Just like Carina Lau came to Tiananmen Square for the first time and said, “Oriental red is the sun in my heart”.
It’s like the first time we watched the flag raising, the first time we took an oath with our fists clenched, and the children saluting the people’s Liberation Army after school
