The concept of sex and marriage in the spring and Autumn Period

The concept of sex and marriage in the spring and Autumn period is very different from that later.

As mentioned earlier, Duke Xuan of Wei married his concubine Yi Jiang. The original text of Zuo Zhuan is, “Duke Xuan of Wei Yu Yi Jiang”. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Fu Qianzhu said, “Shangyin is called Jiong.” Since it is defined as “prostitution”, it is certainly a criticism, and later, this criticism is more and more played. But it is likely that this layer of negative meaning came from the association. At that time, “Ji” was originally a normal marriage system.

For example, Xuan Jiang, the one mentioned above, later married Bo Zhao, the son of Xuan Gong. Bo Zhao was not happy, but under the pressure of the monarch of the state of Qi, he was forced to “kill” after all. Such a thing can be put forward in the diplomatic note, and Shuo, the son of Xuan Jiang, who is the king of the state of Wei, doesn’t feel that there is anything wrong with his face. It can be seen that everyone doesn’t think this is ethically inappropriate. Later, the five children born to Bo Zhao and Xuan Jiang were not discriminated against because they came out of the “Jiong”. Both girls also married the monarch.

But in any case, the relationship between Qi Xianggong Jiang Zhuer and his sister Wenjiang is a kind of incest. No matter in later generations or at that time, there is no doubt&# 8211; “Men and women have the same surname, but they are not born in Tibet” has long been a common understanding, not to mention that Xianggong and Wenjiang are legitimate brothers and sisters.

In the third year after Duke Huan of Lu ascended the throne, he married Wenjiang, the daughter of Duke Qi. From the very beginning, this wedding had an ominous meaning: the one sent by the state of Lu to greet the wedding was Yu Fu, whose hands were stained with the blood of Yin Gong; However, Qi Yingong personally sent his daughter to marry, which was also inconsistent with the etiquette and law. All the details don’t seem to bode well, although no one can say how wrong it is.

Three years later, Duke Huan and Wenjiang’s son were born. The ceremony of the birth of the crown prince was very formal and festive. In particular, the son had the same birthday as his father. You can imagine how happy Duke Huan was. After listening to doctor Shen Mi’s lecture on how to name the child, Duke Huan named his son “Tong”. The memory of those “indecent” when getting married, if any, will be completely forgotten at this time.

More than a decade later, Duke Qi had already passed away, and the monarch of the state of Qi was replaced by Wenjiang’s brother Jiang Zhuer, Duke Qi xianger. At this time, Duke Huan decided to accompany Wenjiang back to his mother’s house.

Shen Mi, the doctor, came out again and said, “women have husbands and men have wives. You can’t treat each other lightly. This is called courtesy. If you don’t conform to courtesy, you will be corrupted.”

Shen Mi may have a hunch. But this general argument was not even dissuasive, and the HuanGong couple set out.

To the state of Qi, “Qi Hou Tong Yan.” “Zuo Zhuan” is vague, while “historical records” points out that Qi Xianggong and Wen Jiang have had a relationship for a long time, and this time it is a premeditated renewal of the old relationship.

Historical experience tells us that if you are hooded by a man who is more powerful and powerful than you, the result will probably be better. If Wu Dalang pretends to be confused and doesn’t catch the traitor, he won’t be “kicked up his right foot early and kicked in the central nest” by XiMenqing; And if you are willing to let go after a kick, you can also save a bag of arsenic.

Unfortunately, there are not so many historical experiences to learn from in the spring and Autumn period, not to mention some things that you can’t really restrain when you know what to do. Duke Huan of Lu found the problem and expressed his anger at Wen Jiang. In particular, he doubted whether the son born on the same month and day was born by himself.

Duke Qi Xianggong knew this. In his opinion, Duke Huan’s anger was obviously too unkind and offended his dignity.

Therefore, Duke Xiang of Qi invited Duke Huan to drink, and then asked Hercules Peng Sheng to help Duke Huan get on the carriage. Then people found Duke Huan dead in the car.

Poor Wu Dalang and his younger brother Wu Song avenged him, and the people of Lu did not even dare to destroy the good neighborly and friendly relations with the powerful state of Qi for the death of the monarch. The credentials sent to the state of Qi read as follows:

“Our monarch is afraid of your majesty, unwilling to live in China and come to your country to mend the old friendship. The ceremony has been completed and he cannot return home, and there is no place to hold accountable, which has caused a bad influence among the princes. Please use your son Peng Sheng to eliminate this influence.”

It was only Peng Sheng who was asked to be executed, which was likely to surprise Qi Xianggong (he may not have been prepared for a war), so Peng Sheng certainly had to die. This way of handling provided a model for the settlement of similar events later. When you open the history books, you will find that death ghosts like Peng Sheng can be seen everywhere.

But looking back, Lu people still can’t swallow this tone. At this time, I recall that Wen Jiang was originally going to marry the son of Zheng Guo, but he refused. Therefore, I couldn’t help admiring how far sighted the childe was, and made comments and commendations in the history books. And I forgot that just a year before Duke Huan was killed, the son suddenly died of murder.

For the weak, sometimes choice is not important, because the result is likely to be certain.
