After Jiang Jingguo passed away and Li Denghui took office. In 1990, Zhang Xueliang, who was nearly ninety years old, finally waited for his freedom. After more than fifty years of house arrest, Zhang Xueliang’s life finally returned to tranquility.
In 1991, Zhang Xueliang wanted to visit his children and grandchildren in the United States, so he flew to the United States with his wife Zhao Yidi. After arriving in San Francisco, Zhang Xueliang and his wife first stayed at their daughter’s house, then arrived in Los Angeles and met old friends they had not seen for many years. The reunion of family and old friends after a long separation made Zhang Xueliang feel exceptionally good.
Zhang Xueliang’s son is in Los Angeles, but he did not choose Los Angeles. On the one hand, it’s because Zhang Xueliang’s girlfriend Jiang Shiyun is also in New York, and Miss Zhao Si doesn’t want to go. On the other hand, Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Si also want to take a leisure vacation and experience a leisurely and leisurely life. Furthermore, Hawaii has a pleasant climate and tropical island style, and there are also many Chinese people here. So the two of them happily went to Hawaii. When Zhang Xueliang was in Taiwan, he sold some of his assets and made material preparations for his residency in Hawaii.
Zhang Xueliang’s life is very luxurious. The ingredients are transported by air, and there are all kinds of precious and precious items available. Eating them alone costs tens of thousands of yuan per month. Miss Zhao Si smokes world-class cigarettes. The price of a box of cigarettes was enough for an ordinary family to live for a month at that time. Zhang Xueliang also has his own backyard where he can ride horses. In daily life, there are a large number of servants to serve.
Hawaii is indeed a place that makes people feel relaxed and happy. For the first time in over fifty years, Zhang Xueliang felt completely free and began to live a luxurious life in Hawaii. Zhang Xueliang, who had just arrived, checked into the five-star Hilton Hotel. Not only that, they also chose the most expensive presidential suite located on the 15th floor.
They are also not satisfied with the high-end American cuisine in hotels, often going out to expensive Chinese restaurants for meals, and rarely ordering meals based on prices. The daily expenses of five-star hotels are surprisingly high. Not only that, they often travel everywhere and go wherever they want.
And their life didn’t end in a week or two, as Zhang Xueliang lived like this for four years. Spend money as you please every day.
On October 14, 2001, at the age of 101, Zhang Xueliang reached his final journey in life. On his deathbed, Zhang Xueliang mainly donated his inheritance to Columbia University in the United States. Zhang Xueliang accepted all the inheritance left by Yu Fengzhi, but did not fulfill Yu Fengzhi’s wish to be buried with him. Zhang Xueliang was still buried with Zhao Yidi.
A large part of Zhang Xueliang’s inheritance was actually gifted by Yu Fengzhi, and even so, he did not leave his inheritance to his children. The heritage includes not only money and property, but also celebrity calligraphy and paintings, antique cultural relics, and art collections, including Zhang Xueliang’s own diary, photos, letters, etc.
As a firsthand practitioner of many important events, Zhang Xueliang’s legacy has enormous historical value for the study of modern Chinese history. Many of these heritages have the historical charm and humanistic atmosphere of traditional Chinese culture, and their value cannot be measured.
