Huang Mei king, who calls himself Huang Mei old Buddha, is a character in the Chinese classic novel Journey to the West. Readers who are not sure can read it together with the Xiaobian of China story network.
As we all know, Buddha Tathagata is the highest leader of Buddhism and the ruler of Xiniu Hezhou. However, as a Buddhist, King Huang Mei dared to pretend to be a Buddha in Xiaoxitian to intercept the scripture collection team. Why does King Huang Mei dare to impersonate the Tathagata? Isn’t he afraid of punishment from the Tathagata,
First, pretend to be Tathagata
King Huang Mei was originally a child with yellow eyebrows who was the chime under the Maitreya Buddha’s seat. When the Maitreya Buddha went to the Yuanshi meeting, he stole gold cymbals, race bags and other treasures, and became a demon in the lower world. When King Huang Mei heard about Sun Wukong’s Scripture taking in the west, he wanted to have a competition with him to see who was more powerful. So he went to xiaoleiyin temple in the west, where he gathered a group of demons and turned them into Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and waited for the scripture taking team to come.
II. Capture the scripture group
?
When the Buddhist Scripture collection team headed west to Xiaoxitian, Monk Tang found a high mountain in front of them and thought that it was connected to heaven. Sun Wukong retorted that no matter how high the mountain is, it cannot be connected with the sky. Zhu Bajie asked, “why is Kunlun mountain called” Tianzhu “? Sun Wukong replied that it was the dry position of Kunlun Mountain in the eight trigrams, and the sky was filled with air. After hearing this, monk Sha advised everyone to continue westward and stop arguing. Then the group accelerated and climbed the mountain.
The scripture collection team crossed the mountain and found a temple covered by auspicious clouds in front of it. Tang Monk sent Sun Wukong to check it. Sun Wukong found that although the temple in front of him was very similar to Leiyin temple, it was not a Lingshan mountain and had some ferocity. He advised Tang monk to be careful. Tang Monk thought that when he arrived at Lingshan, he not only didn’t pay attention to Sun Wukong’s instructions, but also moved forward quickly. Tang monk came to the door and found that there were three words “Leiyin Temple”, so he became angry and angrily denounced monkey king for cheating himself.
Sun Wukong advised Tang monk to take a good look at the mountain gate. There are four characters on it. Tang Monk looked carefully and found that it was “xiaoleiyin Temple”, which he thought was the ashram of other Buddhas and wanted to go in to worship. Sun Wukong reminded me again that it would be bad luck to go in. Tang monk replied, “if there are Buddhas worshipping Buddha, even if there are only Buddha statues inside, you should go in to worship.” Then there was a reproof from xiaoleiyin temple, asking why they snubbed the Buddha? Tang monk, Zhu Bajie and Sha monk knelt down and kowtowed. Only Sun Wukong did not kneel.
Tang Monk and his disciples went into xiaoleiyin temple and found many Bodhisattvas and Arhats, so they went forward step by step. King Huang Mei saw Sun Wukong standing behind him and refused to kneel down, so he sternly scolded him. Sun Wukong determined that these immortals were all fake, so he angrily denounced them for ruining the reputation of the Tathagata and hit them with a golden cudgel. King Huang Mei threw a golden Nao to trap Sun Wukong, and then sent a group of demons to catch Tang monks. Then king Huang Mei imprisoned the scripture collection team, hid their luggage, and went to rest.
III. battle with Sun Wukong
Sun Wukong was trapped in the dark golden cymbal. He felt very uncomfortable. He wanted to break it, but found it useless. Then Sun Wukong grew bigger and smaller. He wanted to take the opportunity to escape. He found that it was still useless. He changed a drill to drill a hole, but it was still useless. Sun Wukong had no choice but to recite a spell, and called five Jiedi, six Ding and six Jia, and eighteen guardians of the sect, Garan, to lift the cymbals and save himself. However, the immortals spent a lot of energy, but they could not pry a dime.
Jin tou Jiedi went to heaven to ask the Jade Emperor for help. The Jade Emperor then ordered 28 stars to come down to the earth to help Tang monks and disciples. Twenty eight stars quietly came to the golden Nao and tried to open it, but it was still in vain. Kang Jinlong then sharpened his horn and rushed through the seam of the golden Nao. It took him a long time to get in and save the monkey king. As soon as Sun Wukong came out, he immediately smashed the golden Nao to pieces, which alerted the Yellow eyebrow king.
King Huang Mei immediately summoned the demons to block the entrance of the cave to prevent Sun Wukong and them from escaping. Sun Wukong and King Huang Mei fought, and the two sides fought for 50 rounds, neither winning nor losing. Twenty eight Xingxiu, five Jiedi and other immortals came forward to help Sun Wukong and surround the Yellow eyebrow king. Fearless, King Huang Mei took out the race bag and captured the monkey king and all the immortals. Then king Huang Mei released the monkey king one by one, bound them one by one, and then held a banquet to celebrate, and then rested.
Sun Wukong took off the rope, then rescued the Tang Monk and 28 Xingxiu one by one, and let them escape from xiaoleiyin temple first. Sun Wukong turned into a bat, searched everywhere for his luggage, found it and took it away. As a result, his luggage fell off on the way, alarming the demons. King Huang Mei found that Tang Monk and all of them had fled and hurried to chase them. The two sides fought again and fought all day. King Huang Mei took out the race bag again and captured the immortals. Only Sun Wukong, who had quick eyes and quick hands, escaped in advance.
Fourth, take in the monkey king’s reinforcements
Seeing that the immortals were captured by King Huang Mei again, Monkey King was sad and cried bitterly. He lamented the powerful magic power of the demon. Then Sun Wukong went to Wudang Mountain to ask God’s founder Dang Mo Tianzun Zhenwu for help. Zhenwu then sent two generals of turtle and snake and five dragons to help him subdue demons. Sun Wukong led the two generals of tortoise and snake and the five dragons to xiaoleiyin temple to settle accounts with King Huangmei. When King Huang Mei heard that Sun Wukong had led his rescuers to challenge him, he went out of the cave to meet him. Half an hour after the two sides fought, King Huang Mei released the race bag again and took the second general turtle and snake and the five dragons.
Sun Wukong had been on guard for a long time, so he ran away. Seeing that King Huang Mei had won, he was very regretful and sleepy, so he went to sleep. The day duty Gong Cao Yu wakes up Sun Wukong and asks him to seek help from the great sage king Bodhisattva in the pin city of Xuyi mountain. Sun Wukong then went to qucheng to show his intention to Bodhisattva Wang, who sent Prince Zhang and four generals to help him. Prince Zhang and the four generals followed Sun Wukong to find King Huang Mei to challenge him, but they were still taken away by the race bag.
V. why does King Huang Mei dare to pretend to be a Buddha
The demon king said: “The monkey didn’t know my name, so he came to offend Xianshan. This place is called Xiaoxitian. Because I have achieved good results in my practice, God gave me the treasure Pavilion. My name is Huangmei old Buddha. People here don’t know it, but they call me Huangmei king and Huangmei grandfather. I always know that you need some means to go west, so I set up a show to entice your master to come in and play a bet with you. If you can beat me, please spare your master and apprentice, so that you can achieve good results; If I can’t, I’ll beat you to death. When I go to see the Tathagata to learn the Scriptures, it will be the same as China. ” (65 chapters of journey to the West)
When Xinger heard of it, he cried out: “what a laughing monk. It would be a shame to teach this boy to falsely call him the Buddha and frame old sun.” Maitreya said: “one is that I am not sincere and have lost people. The other is that your masters and disciples have not finished their magic obstacles. Therefore, the lower bound of the spirit should suffer. I’ll take him with you.” (journey to the west, 66 chapters)
King Huang Mei dares to impersonate the Buddha for the following reasons:
First of all, although King Huang Mei is a chime boy beside Maitreya Buddha, his level is not low. King Huang Mei mentioned that he was an old Huang Mei Buddha who had achieved good results. Xiaoleiyin temple was also given by the Jade Emperor. It can be seen that King Huang Mei is a senior staff of Buddhism, not an ordinary stone chime boy. Moreover, the king Huang Mei intercepted the scripture collection team not to eat the meat of Tang monk, but to compete with Sun Wukong in martial arts. If he wins, he goes to the west to collect scriptures. It is not easy for the Tathagata to punish a Buddhist.
Secondly, King Huang Mei is a disciple of Maitreya Buddha, and Maitreya Buddha is the future Buddha who succeeds Buddha Tathagata and is known as the “Eastern Buddha”. Therefore, with such a big supporter as Maitreya Buddha, King Huang Mei is naturally not afraid of punishment from the Tathagata. Besides, Xiniu Hezhou is full of monsters. The Tathagata is busy cleaning up these monsters, so naturally it can’t control the Yellow eyebrow king. For example, scorpion essence stung Tathagata, but Tathagata didn’t do anything about her.
Finally, Maitreya Buddha mentioned that the scripture collection team must go through all kinds of hardships before reaching Lingshan. Therefore, King Huang Mei intercepted the Tang monks, allowing them to complete the dilemma of “Xiao Lei Yin was killed” and “the gods were trapped” in the “99-81” disaster, which is a bit of credit to the training of the scripture learning team. Therefore, Maitreya Buddha can fully take this opportunity to defend King Huang Mei from the Tathagata and let the Tathagata let him go.
