Speaking of the God of fire, we think more of Zhu Rong, but who is Zhu Rong? Is this the only God of fire in ancient China? Now I will tell you about the God of fire in myth.

First of all, let’s talk about the God of fire, which is not just about setting fire. According to records, Vulcan is one of the gods in the folk belief, and all Chinese nationalities have the custom of Vulcan sacrifice. There are great differences in the image and origin of Vulcan in the ancient history records of the Han nationality and the legends of various nationalities, and there are also many differences in the related beliefs and folk customs. Therefore, it is difficult for orthodox historians to tell what is the cause of Vulcan worship. Their knowledge and ability are limited, so they certainly do not know the Tao.

Here are several versions of Vulcan:

I. Vulcan is a woman

Among the nationalities who believe in Shamanism in northern China, Vulcan is an ancient woman, known as Vulcan mother, Vulcan woman, Vulcan girl, Vulcan spirit, etc. For example, according to the Oroqen legend, a woman who started a fire in the morning offended the God of fire by stirring up the fire. No matter where her family moved, there was no fire. Later, she apologized to mother-in-law Vulcan and was forgiven. When she went home and lit the fire again, the fire lit up.

Basically, the status of Vulcan is very high among the hunting nations in the north. For example, it is absolutely forbidden to step on fire, ride on fire, and cross fire with your feet. It is not allowed to speak ill of fire or directly abuse fire. They even think that burning pastures, forest farms and children’s serious diseases are punished because of the God of fire’s bad luck. Therefore, in some places, the status of the God of fire is much higher than that of general natural gods.

II. Vulcan is zhurong

Zhu Rong, the God of fire in ancient legends. Zhu Rong is recognized as the ancestor of Chu in Chu society and the fire master of Yan Emperor. According to legend, there was a fire official named Zhu Rong in the Yellow Emperor’s time. His childhood name was Li. He was the son of a clan leader. He had a red face and was powerful and smart, but he was hot by nature. He would be angry when he encountered something unpleasant. At that time, when tunnel people invented drilling wood for fire, they were not very good at preserving and using fire. But Li especially likes to be close to fire. So he became an expert in fire control in his teens. Fire in his hands, as long as it is not long-distance transmission, it can be preserved for a long time.

Because of his special ability to fire, everyone respects him. Later, on one occasion, Li picked some sun dried reed flowers and knocked them against them with two sharp stones. Sparks splashed on the reed flowers and “squeaked” and smoked. With another gentle blow, the flames grew stronger and stronger. Since Li discovered the method of making fire by stone, he no longer had to spend a lot of time drilling wood for fire, nor did he have to try every means to save the fire. The Yellow Emperor of the Central Plains knew that Li had such great credit, so he invited him to be a fire official who specialized in fire management.

However, in the Han Dynasty, there are also different definitions of the God of fire. For example, in ancient times, the Suiren family drilled wood to make fire, which made mankind enter the cooked food stage. Later generations respected it as the God of fire, also known as the true king of fire virtue, and regularly sacrificed it. These are based on the final evolution of different tribes, and there are different definitions, but the widely accepted one is Huoshen zhurong.

A god of fire enshrined in a fire temple in a county in Northern Henan Province has three heads and six arms. Vulcan is one of the gods in the folk God belief in Chinese mythology. All Chinese nations have the custom of Vulcan sacrifice. However, there are great differences in the image and origin of Vulcan in the ancient history records of the Han nationality and the legends of various ethnic groups, and there are also many differences in the related beliefs and folk customs. Even on the key issue of why Vulcan worship originated, experts and scholars have different views, and there is no unified statement so far.

The God of fire is actually an incarnation of three heads and six arms, with six arms. Each arm holds two bows, arrows, swords, a fire gourd and other magic tools. He is covered with gold helmets and armor. Looking at the evil spirit, he said that he is in charge of folk fire, and there will be no fire or other disasters in his house. In fact, Vulcan was the incarnation of an ancient general. He was loyal to the king and served the country in those days, but the current emperor listened to the slander of eunuchs and trapped him in the deep forest with fire. In order to save his mother, he was burned to death. As for the saying of “three heads”, one face is his own, one is his father’s, and the other is his mother’s.

The saying of “six arms” is that two arms are his own, two are his father’s, and two are his mother’s. In fact, the Tomb Sweeping Day, as people know it, is an important national festival popular among ancient emperors to commemorate the God of fire (formerly known as Jie Zitui), who was loyal to the emperor and served the country and filial piety to his parents.

According to historical records, Zhu Rong is a descendant of Emperor Yan in ancient times. The book Shanhaijing haineijing describes his birth as follows: “Emperor Yan’s wife, Chishui’s son, tingwo, was born in Yanju, Yanju was born in festivals, festivals were born in operas, and operas were born in zhurong”. It can be seen that Zhu Rong is the fifth generation Xuanxuan grandson of Emperor Yan.

In addition, according to the Internal Classic of the sea, it is also said that the Yellow Emperor gave birth to Chang Yichang, and Yi Chang gave birth to Korean wave, and Korean wave gave birth to Zhuanxu. The western classic of the great wilderness is supplemented as: “Zhuanxu gave birth to an old boy, and the old boy gave birth to Zhu Rong”. In this way, Zhu Rong became the queen of the Yellow Emperor again. However, in ancient times, the Yellow Emperor and the Yan Emperor were originally of the same family, so it is not surprising that Zhu Rong in the legend was the grandson of the Yan Emperor and sometimes the descendant of the Yellow Emperor.

There are also folk beliefs that Yan Emperor or Suiren surname is the God of fire. For example, it is said that in ancient times, Suiren surname drilled wood to make fire, making mankind enter the cooked food stage. Later generations respected it as the God of fire, also known as the true king of fire virtue, and regularly sacrificed it. There are also some regions where the worship of the God of fire has no specific origin, or called the southern fire emperor, or the mother of the fire, and so on. According to the date and behavior of Vulcan sacrifice, the customs in various historical periods and regions are also inconsistent. For example, in ancient times, the sacrifice of the God of fire was held in summer, and since the Han and Jin Dynasties, this tradition has been continued by worshiping the stove in summer.

In this fire temple, the God of water sits side by side with the God of fire, which is harmonious! The image of Vulcan is ferocious, with three heads and six arms, and is equipped with firearms such as wind and fire wheels, fire gourds, fire seals, fire swords, fire bows, etc., which is similar to those in myths and legends " Nezha "e; Abnormal.

The God of fire with stroke in another fire temple is not the image of three heads and six arms, and there is no water god around, so I don’t know whether it’s lonely or not.

People burn incense and offer offerings to pray for the blessing of the God of fire. In the past, poor people could not get better gifts such as chicken, fish and meat, so they had to use white flour to pinch and steam into bionic dough sculptures such as chicken, duck, fish and pig’s head. Later, it developed into works of art such as cantaloupe holy fruit carved from white radish, pavilions and buildings. The species have also developed from simple chicken, fish and meat to fruits, vegetables, flowers and plants, dramatic characters, auspicious birds and rare animals, etc. their images are lifelike, vivid and colorful, so they are called “flower supply”.
