Speaking of the Dragon King of the four seas, what will everyone think of.

Since ancient times, there has been a universal saying. In literary classics such as journey to the west, the romance of gods, and the complete collection of three religions, there is the saying of the Dragon King of the four seas. The Dragon Kings of the four seas are far away from the heaven and move in their respective oceans, with great autonomy.

The Dragon Kings of the four seas are the Dragon King of the East China Sea, the Dragon King of the South China Sea, the Dragon King of the West China Sea and the Dragon King of the North China Sea. What are their abilities?

First, let’s look at the Dragon King of the East China Sea.

The Dragon King of the East China Sea is the Dragon King who rules the East China Sea. His name is Ao Guang. Ancient China honored the East, so the Dragon King of the East Sea ranked first among the Dragon Kings of the four seas, with great power, dominating the rain, thunder, floods, tides, tsunamis, etc. on earth.

However, in myths and legends, the Dragon King of the east sea seems to have no good end.

In the romance of gods, Ao Bing, the Third Prince of the Dragon King of the East Sea, went to apologize for Nezha’s trouble in the sea. He was killed by Nezha and was skinned and cramped. The Dragon King of the East China Sea personally went to Nezha’s father Li Jing to plead guilty. As a result, Nezha beat him to the sea, and even the Dragon scales were stripped off, forcing him to become a little snake.

In the myth of the Yuan Dynasty, the Dragon King of the East China Sea is even worse. When Nezha was bathing in the East China Sea, he made the Dragon Palace a mess. Donghai Dragon King sent troops to catch Nezha. Unexpectedly, all nine dragon soldiers were killed by Nezha. The Dragon King of the East Sea had nothing to do, so he had to go to the heavenly palace in person and planned to report the matter to the Jade Emperor. However, Nezha ambushed outside the gate of heaven and stopped and killed the poor East Sea Dragon King.

How can you say “miserable”?

Is that enough? did not. In the Ming Dynasty magic novel “journey to the South”, two East Sea Dragon Kings were killed by the hero Hua Guang.

Next, let’s look at the Dragon King of the South China Sea.

In journey to the west, there is a powerful Guanyin Bodhisattva in the South China Sea, who once gave a lot of help to Tang Monk and Sunwukong master and apprentice. In fact, in the South China Sea, in addition to Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, there is also a South China Sea Dragon King.

The Dragon King of the South China Sea is the Dragon King who rules the South China Sea. His name is aoqin (aoming). The South belongs to fire, and the fire is red, so the Dragon King of the South China Sea is also called “red dragon”.

The South China Sea Dragon King is more noble among the four seas Dragon Kings. During the Tang Dynasty, Han Yu, a famous writer, once wrote an article “monument to the South China Sea Temple”, which mentioned that “the South China Sea God is precious”.

Not only that, the South China Sea Dragon King has a very high status among fishermen. Since the past dynasties, fishermen have built Nanhai temples in Guangdong, Hainan and other places. In Miaotou village, Huangpu District, Guangzhou, there is a Nanhai temple with a history of more than 1400 years. It is the only largest and most complete sea temple preserved among the four sea god temples in China. Incense has been burning for thousands of years. Before fishermen go to sea, they must sacrifice the Dragon King of the South China Sea to pray for a full load and a safe return. In 2013, Nanhai temple was announced as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

Then came the Dragon King of the West Sea.

The Dragon King of the West Sea is the Dragon King who rules the West Sea. His name is Ao run, and he is responsible for controlling wind source convection, cool climate, weather changes, etc.

As we all know, China has four sea areas: Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea and South China Sea, but there is no West Sea. Where does the West Sea Dragon King manage? Here is a fairy tale.

Long ago, the old dragon king gave birth to four Dragon princes. When the four Dragon princes grew up, they were very naughty and made trouble everywhere, which made the old dragon king very upset. The old dragon king had to arrange for them – the big prince Ao Guang went to the East China Sea to become the Dragon King of the East China Sea; The second prince Ao Qin went to the South China Sea and became the Dragon King of the South China Sea; The third prince Ao Shun went to Beihai to be the Dragon King of Beihai. For the Dragon Prince Ao run, the old dragon king had made arrangements for him to stay with him.

However, Ao ran was unwilling to stay with the old dragon king and volunteered to be the Dragon King of the West Sea. Unexpectedly, Ao ran went a long way to the West and didn’t see the West Sea. When he came to the south foot of Qilian Mountain, his heart was broken and his tears were like rain. He even formed a vast water area, which is the West Sea, which we usually call “Qinghai Lake”.

The Dragon King of the West Sea didn’t make a grand debut in journey to the west, but he had a son, who was the main character in journey to the West – he was the third prince Ao lie. When the Tang Monk went to the west to learn scriptures, Ao lie ate his white horse by mistake. After being enlightened by a Bodhisattva, he turned into a white dragon horse and acted as the mount of the Tang monk.

Finally, Beihai Dragon King.

Beihai Dragon King is the Dragon King who rules Beihai. His name is Ao Shun. He is specially responsible for managing the cold air, such as wind, frost, snow, rain, ice, etc.

Because the Dragon King of Beihai has the ability of “cooling”, he once played a unique role in journey to the West.

In the 77th episode of journey to the west, “demons deceive nature and worship the truth as one”, when monk Tang’s teachers and disciples passed Shituo mountain, they were all caught by the three demon kings of green lion, white elephant and ROC, and put them in an iron cage to be steamed and eaten. At this critical moment, monkey king used his magic to escape from the steamer, and hurriedly called Ao Shun, the Dragon King of the North Sea, and asked him to “turn into a cold wind, blow under the pot, and hover around the enclosure”, so that the temperature of the steamer would no longer rise, and save the lives of the three Tang monks and disciples.
