There are many doubts about the Xi’an Incident. Chiang Kai shek has been in politics for many years, and many people understand his temperament. That’s the question. Why did Zhang Xueliang personally send Chiang Kai shek back to Nanjing? Didn’t the people around him stop him. There are actually many things that most readers have not yet understood. Today, I will give you a detailed introduction.
The Xi’an Incident involved many people, including Chiang Kai shek, Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng. In addition to them, there were also Soong May-ling, Song Qingling, Premier Zhou, Song Ziwen, and so on. Everyone was a leader of the Republic of China. The incident itself, which hijacked the Supreme Commander of China, caused a huge sensation in society.
After the eight propositions were proposed, there was also a significant international response. In particular, the Soviet Union, as a Communist International, criticized the Xi’an Incident, which totally exceeded the expectations of Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng. In the Nanjing government, some pro Japanese elements also seized the opportunity to cause civil war on a larger scale. As part of the same camp, the Northeast Army and the 17th Route Army also had significant disagreements on how to release Chiang Kai shek.
Under numerous pressures, Zhang Xueliang went his own way without notifying the representative of the Communist Party of China, Premier Zhou, or the leaders of the Northeast Army and the 17th Route Army. He directly decided to personally accompany Chiang Kai shek back to Nanjing. What was even more surprising was that Chiang Kai shek was also decisive and directly detained Zhang Xueliang when he arrived in Nanjing. Directly pushing the Communist Party, Northeast Army, and 17th Route Army into a passive situation.
However, later on, a letter from Zhang Xueliang was discovered, indicating that sending Chiang Kai shek back to Nanjing was not a temporary initiative. The content of the edict is: “When my younger brother leaves Shaanxi, in case of an accident, please all brothers follow the command of the Tiger Minister and the Filial Marquis.” Since Zhang Xueliang had a premonition that there might be problems, why take the risk!
There is a rumor that Chiang Kai shek launched an emotional attack on this issue before boarding the plane, solemnly stating that he would abide by the agreement and establish an anti Japanese united front. Zhang Xueliang was moved and, in a moment of heat, decided to send Chiang Kai shek back to Nanjing. Before leaving, I hastily wrote down the instructions. However, from the original version of the edict, the handwriting on it is written very calmly, and it is simply temporary.
General He Zhuguo, who was next to Zhang Xueliang, later recalled that he accompanied him when Zhang Xueliang sent Chiang Kai shek back to Nanjing. Zhang Xueliang just communicated with Yang Hucheng next to the plane for a while. Pushing aside the obstruction of the attendant, he boarded the plane without writing any instructions. From this, it can be seen that Zhang Xueliang has already prepared this edict.
In 1986, General Yang Hucheng’s secretary also published an article stating that on December 25th, the release of Chiang Kai shek was temporarily decided by Zhang Xueliang. Upon arriving at the airport, General Yang Hucheng was notified and subsequently handed over an edict.
He Zhuguo once said that Zhang Xueliang wanted to send Chiang Kai shek back to Nanjing, not only to plead guilty, but also to increase Chiang Kai shek’s prestige. Many people do not agree to send it to Nanjing, at most to Luoyang, but Zhang Xueliang does not agree.
From here, it can be seen that before the 25th, Zhang Xueliang had already made a decision to personally send Chiang Kai shek back to Nanjing. The truth remained uncertain until the death of both Chiang Kai shek and his son, when Zhang Xueliang revealed the truth:
Sending Chiang Kai shek back to Nanjing, Chinese Communist Party representative Premier Zhou did not agree and even wanted to intercept him halfway. Knowing that he would be arrested in Nanjing, he resolutely went to Nanjing. Because Zhang Xueliang was a soldier, she must be responsible for the Xi’an Incident. In order to stop the civil war and establish the anti Japanese national united front, she sacrificed herself without any concern.
Chairman Mao once commented on the Xi’an Incident: at that time, many people in China instigated a civil war, and the situation was extremely critical. Without Han Qing’s initiative to send Mr. Jiang back to Nanjing, and without following Mr. Jiang’s approach, the Xi’an Incident could not have been resolved peacefully. It is not yet known how long this domestic turmoil will last, and it will definitely give Japan an opportunity to take advantage of it, with unimaginable consequences.
Many people would say that Zhang Xueliang could not become a national hero because of his “non resistance” attack in the Northeast. But judging from his performance in the Xi’an Incident, he sacrificed himself for China’s future vision, only to seek the opportunity to unite against Japan. Xiaobian is called “national hero”, and Zhang Xueliang is fully qualified.
