On November 11, 2021, the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC adopted the following:

Resolution on Major Achievements and Historical Experience

There is a paragraph in the resolution, which is particularly meaningful today:

… The three basic aspects of seeking truth from facts, the mass line and independence have provided scientific guidance for the development of the cause of the Party and the people.

Unfortunately, the correct line formed at the Eighth National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) could not be fully adhered to. The “Great Leap Forward” movement, the movement of people’s communes and other mistakes occurred successively, and the struggle against the Rightists was also seriously expanded.

This paragraph actually points out the problems that occurred during the period when the CPC completed the socialist revolution and promoted socialist construction. The most prominent problems are:

The Great Leap Forward Movement

The reason for this problem lies in the inadequate understanding and implementation of the three basic aspects, namely, seeking truth from facts, the mass line and independence.

The most important thing is to be realistic, and the first thing to do is to be realistic: digital reality

Today, let’s talk about:

Why is digital reality so important

There is a very important “key variable” that causes the Great Leap Forward, namely, “boastful wind”.

In the course of the Great Leap Forward, there were many false reports of output. Among them, the most famous is Xushui County, Hebei Province, which claims to harvest 1.2 billion jin of grain a year.

There, a cabbage can grow 500 jin. One mu of cotton can produce 5000 jin of lint (cottonseed removed), one mu of wheat can produce 120000 jin, and one mu of sweet potato can produce 120000 jin.

The situation like this has not been punished, and other places have learned from it. It is said that such a “dramatic” situation has occurred in a certain place:

In Anguo County, Baoding City, in 1958, wheat in the whole county grew well, so Baoding held a regional wheat field promotion meeting in Anguo County on June 1.

At the meeting, Team 13 of Liuchang Agricultural Society and Xiezhuang Agricultural Society reported 1165 kg and 1800 kg of wheat per mu of high-yield plots respectively, which were praised. Subsequently, the county and county, township and township compared with each other to report high yield, blowing a wind of exaggeration. Jiaozhuang Township reported a land yield of 4871 jin per mu. Nanloudi Township reported a plot of land in Zhuotou Village with a yield of 5103 jin per mu. On June 30, Hebei Daily reported that Zhuotou wheat had set a national “high yield record” under the title of “Wheat Climbing the Heavenly Ladder, Yielding 51 yuan per mu”, and then the People’s Daily reported.

Finally, the county party committee reported that the county’s wheat yield per mu was 491 jin, more than three times the actual yield of 156 jin. It’s OK to just brag, but the amount of grain collected by the country according to this report seriously exceeds the actual output.

It was still Anguo County, Baoding City. In 1958, the total output of summer grain in the county was 33.12 million jin, an increase of 1.3% over the previous year. The purchase of 24.85 million kg, an increase of 99.3% over the previous year. It was also the main reason that led to the difficulties in the lives of the masses.

Then, why do everyone “brag”? What is the reason behind this?

In the “Great Leap Forward” movement, because of the excessive pursuit of high speed in production development, it is required to achieve high targets for industrial and agricultural production. It is required that the output of major industrial and agricultural products should be doubled, several times, or even dozens of times.

But these indicators can not be completed below, so what should we do?

The insistence on fulfilling those unrealistic high targets will inevitably lead to the prevalence of blind command, the proliferation of grandiosity, and serious difficulties in the lives of the masses.

Did the Central Committee at that time not realize this problem? Neither.

After 1958, Mao Zedong and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China made great efforts to correct the mistakes they had noticed and took a series of measures to lower the industrial and agricultural production indicators in 1959.

From the first Zhengzhou Conference in November 1958 to the early stage of the Lushan Conference in July 1959, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China made great efforts to lead the whole party to correct the mistakes that it had detected.

At the beginning of 1961, facing the extremely severe economic situation, Comrade Mao Zedong made a profound reflection on the problems existing in the “Great Leap Forward” and “People’s Commune Movement”.

By looking at the history of that period and the relevant minutes of the meeting, it is clear that Comrade Mao Zedong is eager to understand the actual situation at the grass-roots level. At meetings, talks and surveys, whenever possible, Comrade Mao Zedong would severely criticize formalism and bureaucracy in grass-roots work, and made a series of important instructions on how to do grass-roots work well and solve the formalism problem.

At the enlarged meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee on the evening of March 5, 1961, Chairman Mao said:

In the past, we always wanted to figure out how much we planted, how much we produced, how much we gained today, and what we will do tomorrow. That’s the way it is. If you give directions blindly, I will make a false report. As a result, I will become boastful and unrealistic. That is true, including the documents issued by the Central Committee.

And just a week later, on March 13, at the working meeting of the heads of the Central South Bureau, the Southwest Bureau and the East China Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, they proposed:

In the past few years, we have made mistakes, first of all, because the situation is unknown The reasons for defeating wars are mostly unknown. In recent years, we have suffered a lot from the unknown situation and paid a high price.

On June 8 of the same year, the criticism was even more severe. At the enlarged meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee attended by the first secretaries of the Central Bureaus, Chairman Mao criticized:

Those who violate the laws of objective things should be punished. If you are punished, you should review it. Now that we have been punished, the land, people and livestock have become thinner. What is it that “three thins” are not punished The current “three thins” are mainly the responsibility of the Central Committee and me If you comrades here in the region open in April or June, you will also have 40%!

From the above statement, we can see several key words:

Unregulated reporting, unclear situation, violation of objective rules

From this, we can feel why mathematics is so important!

Because false figures will lead to miscalculation of senior executives when making decisions, and miscalculation will lead to more stringent requirements and goals, which will lead to greater difficulty in completing tasks, and the difficulty in completing tasks will eventually lead to more false figures.

In this way, it fell into a spiral of “constantly going in the wrong direction”.

Back to the beginning, why is this resolution particularly meaningful today? Because if you want to really solve the problem, you need “digital reality” first!

Because it’s not just exaggerating the figures, exaggerating the contributions, and advancing the time!

Sometimes, it is a kind of exaggeration to reduce the number, weaken the degree and delay the time!

Insist on self revolution. The CPC is distinguished from other political parties by its courage in self revolution. The self revolutionary spirit is a strong support for the Party to maintain its youthful vitality. The advanced Marxist political party is not born, but forged in the constant self revolution.
